Guys and dolls, I have a new favorite post-shopping hotspot in Paris. So hold the dresses! And grab a pencil.

Good to the last drop

The scoop

Located in between Gare Saint-Lazare and Printemps Homme, I stumbled upon the historic Triadou during a recent shopping spree with my sister. (more…)

Paris: One Stop Kitsch Shopping at the Brocantes

Jiminy Cricket! I cannot tell a lie. Kitsch always meets swanky at the brocantes (antique/junk sales) and vide-greniers (neighborhood-wide yard sales) in Paris. And that’s the truth.

Peppered throughout the city, I never fail to find beaucoup baubles, gems and retro cherishes. If buying hundreds of funky plastic key chains is wrong, I don’t want to be right! (more…)

Meet a few au courant Trendsters at Porte de Vanves Photos by Theadora Brack

Aye Matey!

By Theadora Brack

Today I’ve decided to wear my tour guide hat, and fashion a special excursion for our retro-loving trendsters. Boasting about recent vintage scores never gets old, so let’s sail to the Porte de Vanves flea market.

Off to the puces

Once you’ve arrived, take a deep breath. Keep your head. Throughout the flea market, you’ll find scads and gads of vintage clothes, along with perfume bottles, belts, bags, hats, hat boxes, jewelry, sunglasses, and shoes. Also, watch out for haute couture labels. (more…)

Calling all sweet tooth fanatics! It’s high time for another macaron jaunt. Today let’s trek it on over to the Gérard Mulot Pâtisserie. Head’s up! Bold and Beautiful is how Chef Mulot rolls.

Six Degrees

Here’s a fun tidbit. I have my friend Sandrine to thank for introducing me to the pâtisserie. Sandrine, by the way, taught Kirsten Dunst how to play the harp for the title role in Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette” film. Yes, it is a small world! (more…)

Grab your vinyl candy-colored purse and lipstick! Today we’re going on vintage clothing shopping spree in Paris. Window-shoppers of the world, unite! Are you with me?

Throughout the City of Deee-Lite, you’ll find deep pockets of “friperies” (second-hand clothing shops) and “depôts-ventes” (consignment shops). Possessing a mad, mad penchant for amassing the garb of yesteryear but on a budget, I currently have three favorite stomping grounds in Paris: Abbesses, the Porte de Vanves flea market and the Marais.

Today let’s stroll on over to one of my favorite shops in the Marais. (more…)

Bargain shopper with a cause

Hello, Kitty, goodbye heart! My recently acquired plaster cat was found in a large wooden crate at the Porte de Vanves Flea Market in Paris.

Cost? Two euros. Hypnotic experience? Priceless.

History in the taking

Thank the notorious “rag and bone men” (today’s “dumpster divers”) for getting the flea market party started in the late 19th century. At today’s Paris flea markets and brocantes, you’re likely to find anything from kitschy trinkets to classic French antiques.

Collection? Eclectic. Range? Giant! (more…)
